They have also recently implemented a digital queuing system to help you make the most of your time there. This means you can reserve your place in a queue for a shop and receive a text when you’re at the front.
Bicester Heritage are dedicated to historic motoring and are based at the former RAF Bicester. They have restored buildings, hangars, avenues and airfields to provide an authentic setting. It is the perfect trip for specialists, vehicle owners, enthusiasts and general visitors to immerse themselves in the time warp. It is also home to great brewery and a gin distillers.
If golf is your thing, then Bicester Golf Club is definitely one to check out. Their 18-hole course is challenging yet rewarding. There’s no need to become a member as they offer ‘pay & play’. Just make sure you pre-book a tee time to avoid disappointment. Stand aside Tiger Woods!
The oldest and only Grade 1 listed building in Bicester, St Edburg’s Church, is a big part of the town’s history. It’s a great place to visit to discover some of the history of Bicester. The building is mesmerising with the amazing size of the church as well as the great heights of the oaken roof.
If you’re looking for some rest and relaxation, the town centre has a Vue cinema where you can escape reality for an afternoon and immerse yourself in another world via the big screen. They show the latest movies so visit their website for the latest family ticket deals.
Blenheim Palace is the only non-royal building in England to own the title of ‘Palace’ and is a stone’s throw away from Bicester town centre. The palace is set in beautiful grounds which are free to explore and wander around. Of course, you are also able to a pay a fee to enter the palace and discover the great history of the location that was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill no less!
The Market Square in Bicester is the hub of the town centre and a great place to explore the local hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. As well as hosting the Farmers’ Market every Friday, the Square plays host to all kinds of other events throughout the year which aren’t to be missed.
Be at one with nature at Island Pond Wood. This relatively new woodland was planted in 1999 as part of the Woodland Trust’s ‘Woods on Your Doorstep’ scheme. It’s a fantastic place to have a stroll, walk your dog or go for a cycle. The accessible circular path follows around the wood and has other connecting paths to explore too.
Silverstone Circuit is the current home of the British Grand Prix and isn’t far from Bicester. They have the Silverstone Interactive Museum where you can explore the stars, stories and science behind British motor racing. There’s lots to do at the museum so it’s a great day out for the whole family.
The outdoor mall, Bicester Avenue opened in 2007 and boasts a range of home and garden shops as well as dining and free parking. It’s a lovely place to shop outside of the hustle and bustle of Bicester Village. Some of the stores include Blue Diamond garden centre, World of Water tropical fish shop, Lakeland and Cotswold Outdoor.
